Bogging in Bruce

Blitzing and Boating
Hello everyone, a couple weekends ago my colleagues, along with hundreds of other biologists and myself, were busy blitzing the Don River Watershed for the 2015 Ontario BioBlitz. Sweeping Into Action
This week we deployed a sampling team of 5 to set up 3 sites for standardized sampling at rare Charitable Research Reserve in Cambridge. Four colleagues and I set out early Monday morning to get started on our days’ work. I was eager to get back out to the field and set up some traps. A Mitey Start
Hello everyone, my name is Nathaniel Jones. This is my first blog of the summer. I am currently getting started on my new position here at BIO. I was fortunate enough to land the summer Undergraduate Research Assistantship position to sample the soil for arthropod diversity. So far this week I have just been getting started, learning a lot about the techniques of sampling small soil arthropods. Some of the mites are so tiny I am unable to use forceps, as they are almost microscopic and hard to distinguish from grains of sand. Continue reading “A Mitey Start”
Shining Some Light on Darkwoods’ Past
So we have arrived in the expansive Darkwoods Nature Conservancy property. Upon first impression I was taken aback by the beautiful drive we had through the property to our cabin which was alongside Kootenay Lake, surrounded by mountains. Rocky Start to ‘Rootine’ Work
Greetings blog browsers. So our week of sampling at scenic Glacier National park is just starting up! The end of our entire trip is starting to come into sight, only 2 parks left. Glacier National Park is absolutely great, from the pristine cold fresh running rivers, the diverse habitats at our disposal for sampling, and the great mountain views. Collecting!… I can at Kinaskan
So it has been a somewhat interesting past week, with some unexpected bumps in the road. During our time at the beautiful Kluane National Park, I started to notice a little sore spot in my mouth. To be more specific the gum area around one of my wisdom teeth. However this did not really bother me too much as my mind was enveloped by the magnificent landscape, and the work at hand.
